The University of the Thai Chamber of Commerce or UTCC (Thai: มหาวิทยาลัยหอการค้าไทย) is a private educational institution located in Bangkok, Thailand. The university began with just 300 students as the College of Commerce in 1940, offering a six month and a two year study program. However, it was soon shut due to the World War II Japanese invasion and occupation of Thailand. The College of Commerce reopened in 1963 and began offering bachelor's degree programs in 1967. It moved to its present location in 1973, and in 1984 was elevated to university status under its present name.

The university is academically organized into 8 schools: Business, Accountancy, Economics, Humanities, Science, Communication Arts, Engineering, and Law. There are also international English language programs leading to a BBA or an MA, MS or MBA degree.

The university has a longer history than any other private university in Thailand. Its nearly half a century of educational experience contributes to an excellent environment for both students and faculty to progress to a higher academic level.

The all-English-language international programs now offered allow foreign students to receive a quality education while at the same time experiencing the lifestyle of the Thai community.

Vision and Mission

To realize its vision of being one of the leading universities in business education in Asia, UTCC emphasises producing graduates who have academic and business ability and ethics, employing faculty members and staff with distinguished abilities in English, information technology and business, and being a reliable source of academic services in the area of business for the society.

Status and Strength

As of January 2007, UTCC has 19,472 undergraduate and 1,710 graduate students. The total includes international students from different countries worldwide.

Since its foundation, the University has maintained a close relationship and cooperation with the Thai Chamber of Commerce. Many of the part-time lecturers are successful and outstanding businessmen and executives with invaluable knowledge and experiences.

In the highly competitive and rapidly changing environment, the curriculums are contiually revised and developed; furthermore, new curriculums such as Logistics Management and Global MBA have been added to meet the demands of the new economy.

Full Facilities

UTCC has full facilities to comply with the modern teaching environment: renovated classrooms, wireless internet within the campus, U-channel broadcasting, a post office, a Bangkok Bank branch, and an air-conditioned Fitness Center.

World-Recognized Degree Programs

UTCC International Programs provide eight world-recognized Bachelor, Master and PhD level degrees. Finely developed academic programs enhance students’ skills, offering a low faculty-student ratio and small class sizes.

Scandals

UTCC has received over the past 2 years complaints from students studying Global MBA courses that many teachers do not arrive on time, do not come at all, or speak English at an unacceptable level to the students receiving the education.

In fact, a recent discussion between a few current students has shown that numerous students had left directly because of this. In addition, many students find it unappealling that teachers are often late, and that staff are unable to provide sufficient support for internatonal students.
